REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE DEPARTMENT NEWS
March 30, 2020
The Representative Department is working hard through these uncertain times to make sure that their Consumers are being taken care of. While the State of Pennsylvania is on a stay at home order, we ask that all communication be handled remotely either by telehone, fax, email or snail mail. The safety of everyone is so important! Please employ safe and healthy practices in the war against COVID-19 so that we all make it to the other side. We'll see you then!
SPEAK OUT! CELEBRATION
April 3, 2020
Sunday, June 9, 2020, is now the date for our annual Speak Out! celebration. It is our hope that we have moved the date beyond the end of the stay at home order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
It will be wonderful for us all to be able to gather safely at our annual celebration of success in the face of skepticism. Please plan to join us to hear stories of triumph over impossible odds and revel in the success of those who have fought hard to achieve it.
The Arc of Dauphin County is a 501(c)3 non-profit grassroots organization founded in 1953 by a group of parents wanting a better life for their loved ones with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The organization began at a time when children with I/DD were typically sent to live in state facilities, away from their families. The parents that founded The Arc of Dauphin County wanted to keep their children at home where they were loved and could be part of family life. These parents became strong advocates for their children's education and inclusion in society.

WHAT WE DO...
Making A Difference
The Arc of Dauphin County is in the business of changing and shaping the lives of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The work we do at our Non-Profit Organization is aimed at providing a holistic approach to solving some of society’s biggest challenges. We make sure our consumers are empowered by creating opportunities for them in their communities.
Our Advocacy Program provides direct advocacy support to individuals at any age struggling with systemic hurdles. Our Advocates help consumers navigate through service systems such as education, developmental programs, federal funding streams, medical assistance, legal assistance, housing, transportation, social security, trusts, wills, and community supports and resources.
Pre-Employment Transition Services are designed and tailored to meeting the transition service needs of students with disabilities, ages 14-21. This innovative approach to obtaining pre-employment transition services is made possible through partnership with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. The Arc of Dauphin County collaborates with school districts, community partners, and local businesses who support an inclusive workplace by providing opportunities for students with disabilities.
The Arc of Dauphin County offer services and activities that provide consumers with opportunities for socialization and community integration, while promoting individual choice. We participate in, and organize events that help to create awareness and bring the community and consumers closer together.
Our Computer Skills Training is not your usual computer training program. Here, we focus on the fundamental basics needed to navigate and use computers. Acquiring these fundamental skills provides consumers with a base for:
Prep for higher education
More ongoing training
Our Representative Payee program provides peace of mind in knowing that financial responsibilities are being addressed and handled timely and expertly.
Our Respite Service provides caregivers a short-term break to relieve stress, restore energy, and promote life balance. It also provides those with I/DD a much needed retreat or vacation from daily routines, allowing for socialization with peers, and including activities in the community.
